History of Interior Objects

Interior Objects is the Lafayette area's exclusive carrier for several lines of merchandise, including Crane's paper and Holly Yashi jewelry.

The original Interior Objects started on Lafayette's Main Street in 1972 with the simple goal of finding the best products around the world and sharing them with the Lafayette community. Today, the location has changed, but this philosophy hasn’t. Interior Objects moved to Market Square in 1975 and continues to bring you the best in unique gifts from this location today.

In 1996, Michael and Susan Brouillette purchased the store with a vision very like the original. They shared a desire to bring their customers high-quality products focusing on craftsmanship, design and functionality.

Michael and Susan pride themselves on a customer experience to match their high-quality products. They know the faces that frequent their store and strive to ensure that each customer walks out the door not only satisfied, but thrilled with the welcome they’ve received. Given this focus, it's no wonder Interior Objects has been named Best Gift Shop in the Journal & Courier's Reader's Choice Awards.

People at Interior Objects

Michael Brouillette expresses his passion through Interior Objects. Raised in nearby Benton County, Michael began his professional life in the banking industry. However, he always had a love for shopping – for what he calls the “theater of retail”: not the act of purchasing, but the experience of desiring and finding, of the search and fulfillment – and how retailers bring you this experience.

Having been customers of Interior Objects for 30 years, Michael and his wife, Susan, eagerly took the chance to purchase the store in 1996 so that Michael could pursue the field he loves. Shopping should never be a chore – it should be an experience. Michael strives to give every customer who enters the store that experience of beauty and discovery by selecting the highest quality products and arranging every placement and display with the greatest attention to detail. Through these, Michael projects the excitement he feels in making the best, most unique products available to the area.

Susan Brouillette, raised in nearby Benton County, has always had a passion for service, people and her community. This passion shows in the daily commitment to the customer that is standard at Interior Objects.

Busy with her job in politics, Susan takes a less active role than Michael in the daily activity of the store. Her responsibilities there include taking care of one of Interior Objects’ most famous features: the store’s silent partner, Lulu MacFluff. Despite a long tradition of owning Scotties, Susan fell in love with Lulu, a shitzu/maltese blend, at a rescue shelter and insisted on taking her home. Michael relented under one condition: that they continue the Scottie tradition by giving Lulu a Scottish name. Lulu can usually be found lounging near the office door, so don’t forget to stop by and say hello!
